NSPCC Number Day

Posted: 7th February 2025

On NSPCC Number Day, all of the children had the chance to take part in lots of great maths investigations in their classrooms and maths treasure hunts in the playground and around the school building. For example, children in Years 1 and 2 were making 2D shapes from mini marshmallows and cocktails sticks and then transforming these into 3D shapes! There were also multiplication quizzes to complete on TTRockstars and children in Years 3 and 4 were estimating their height in sweets. Everyone had a great day! This is what Year 5 and Year 6 did during Number Day.

Number Day in Year 5

Year 5 pupils were excited to take part in NSPCC Number Day! They tackled a maths problem scavenger hunt, working together to solve hidden challenges around the playground. The Smarties Challenge was a big hit—they used the sweets to explore fractions, calculating the fraction of each colour in their tube and then simplifying them. They also competed in a TT Rockstars practice competition, showing fantastic speed and accuracy with their times tables. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and teamwork while supporting such an important cause!

Number Day in Year 6

Year 6 participated in a range of exciting maths centred activities to mark the occasion of Number Day. This included using Times Table Rock Stars, a problem-solving number trail and a selection of problems, including ratio, that required the use of Skittles!
